Sydney Cardiac Specialists prides itself on patient care. To achieve that, our practice charges a private consultation fee, a portion of which may be refunded from Medicare. We offer discounted rates for eligible patients, including those on an Aged or Disability Pension and holders of a DVA Gold card. To keep our care affordable for our patients, we bulk bill some common cardiac investigations such as Transthoracic Echocardiograms’, ECGs, and Holter Monitors for all patients that meet Medicare eligibility rules. For a more detailed explanation of our fees, please call us on 02 9188 2325, or speak with our friendly receptionist when you come in.

When you get into the clinic, our receptionist will provide you with some light paperwork to fill out before your consultation. Please arrive 10 minutes prior to your appointment time so that you can complete this paperwork. The doctor will take you in for your consult, which takes roughly 30 minutes. * If your doctor has referred you for additional cardiac investigations, these will then be booked in after your appointment according to your preference, and the availability of our cardiac technicians. We usually have cardiac technicians working on the same day as your appointment, so we can try to accommodate most cardiac investigations that need to be completed urgently on the same day. Please expect to spend an additional 30 minutes * with our sonographer to complete your cardiac investigations. If you have any special requests or queries about your appointment booking, please call us on (02) 9188 2325 and speak to our wonderful reception team.

* Your appointment time may vary, depending on the day.

On the day, please bring your Medicare/DVA/Pension card along with any information relevant to your care. This includes your referral letter, any relevant pathology and radiology results, a list of all the medications you take (including over the counter medications, herbal medications and vitamins) or all your medication boxes, a list of all the specialists involved in your care, and any recent hospital discharge summaries or medical correspondence that you may have.

Please remember – we cannot process your Medicare claim without a valid referral from your GP or Specialist, and of course, your Medicare card details. As a private medical practice, please note that we cannot accept referral letters completed during a visit to a public emergency department, or during an admission to a public hospital. We encourage you to provide a referral from your GP.

Unlike Medicare, Private Health Cover is typically only for inpatient services, such as admissions to hospital, and medical procedures you have whilst in a hospital. Outpatient services, include appointments outside of hospital, like GP appointments and Specialist appointments, and are not usually covered by Australian Private Health Insurers. For a better understanding of your cover, contact your Private Health Insurer directly. For patients that are found to require inpatient care, our specialists do admit patients and perform medical procedures at local public, and private hospitals. You may choose to use your private health cover for these inpatient services, and we will be happy to discuss this at that time.

COVID-19

As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, and for the safety of our staff, supervised Rapid Antigen Tests (RAT’s) must be performed in clinic prior to your appointment for an Exercise Stress Test. The RAT will be provided at no cost to you by Sydney Cardiac Specialists. If your RAT returns a positive result, we will ask you to leave the clinic, register your positive result through Service NSW, and book back in after you have completed your isolation period as per NSW Health. Sydney Cardiac Specialists prides itself as one of Sydney’s most modern and tech-savvy cardiac practices. As a result, we are well placed to adapt our care to address the ongoing challenge of COVID-19. Our number one priority is to safeguard the health of our patients, many who have chronic and complex cardiac conditions. We have implemented measures to allow for adequate social distancing at the practice, improved our cleaning of high touch surfaces, and have put in the latest technology of air purifiers to improve the ventilation within the practice.

Our team can offer telehealth services through video or phone consultation for patients that require remote care. We continue to closely follow the rules and guidelines of NSW Health regarding the COVID-19 pandemic, to keep everyone COVID-safe, and to continue to provide our patients with a world class level of care. Masks, hand sanitiser and a Rapid Antigen Testing service are available and will be provided for patients who require this. We request our patients to continue to advise our team if they have any new symptoms of COVID-19 (cough, fever, sore throat) so that we can plan how to best continue their care in a way that will be safe for everyone. For the latest information on COVID-safe measures we currently have in place at the practice, please call us on (02) 9188 2325.
