Dr James Weaver is an interventional cardiologist with a hospital appointment at St George Private Hospital. For 8 years he held a staff specialist position at St George Hospital and then for 6 years a senior staff specialist position at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital. These positions included teaching and research appointments as a clinical academic senior lecturer at the University of NSW and then University of Sydney.
Dr Weaver's clinical expertise is coronary angiography and percutaneous coronary intervention. His interests include stenting of complex lesions, particularly chronic total occlusions, as well as radiation minimisation in the cardiac catheter laboratory.
Dr James Weaver completed medical school at University of New South Wales and underwent prevocational training at St George Hospital, Sydney. He completed his cardiology and interventional cardiology training through St George Hospital. Through UNSW, Dr Weaver completed his PhD in evaluating methods of measuring heart attack size in patients using cardiac MRI. He completed a further 12 months of training in coronary angiography and stenting in the Ottawa Heart Institute, Canada.
Whilst the majority of his time is spent in Sydney, Dr Weaver also holds an appointment at Orange Hospital where he provides clinical and Interventional skills in a regional setting. He also provides care to patients from the Solomon Islands by in-country visits as well as online education and clinical support.
